Makeup intimidates me. Here’s a little backstory: I was not allowed to wear makeup until I was in eighth grade. My mom always reminded me that “You are perfect without it!” At the time, I thought this was a ridiculous way to dodge my questioning of her rule. Looking back, I think she is the reason I am just as confident, if not more so, without makeup on than with it on.

Fast forward to my junior year of high school when I started a job at a local model and talent agency where I was going to teach my students how to act and model. I signed up for the job thinking it would be a breeze. Turns out it was not as easy and breezy to be a Covergirl as they make it seem. Not only was I teaching acting and modeling, I was teaching students how to take care of their hair, nails, skin, and teaching them all about (gulp) makeup. But I was only allowed to wear makeup two years prior! How was I going to teach young women, most of whom were better at it than me, to find the correct foundation color for their skin tone?!Luckily, I was a student prior to becoming a teacher and learned the basics of application and color tones.  Now my biggest tip as an instructor is to practice. With experimentation and repetition, it will eventually click and you’ll learn what looks best on you! Don’t forget to have an open mind about the process because we all have had makeup fails of not blending into the neck or overly thin eyebrows.

As a student, it would have been so helpful to have some tips and tricks in the makeup game outside of class. Luckily, you don’t have to commit to as many makeup fails as I had thanks to the set of quizzes found on the Ulta Beauty website.

Ulta Beauty is a chain of beauty stores that carry brands for both men and women. On their website they include a quiz section to help customers choose products based on their individual desires. If you go to Ulta Beauty’s official site, https://www.ulta.com, they have a tab called “Beauty Tips.” There you will find quizzes tailored specifically to your beauty needs whether it be hair, fragrance, foundation, or skin products. This resource alone would have provided me with the necessary tools to start learning how to use makeup!
