A common trope in many rom-coms and TV shows is a girl gang that is united against the world. The reality is that it can be hard to find those platonic relationships in the fast-paced world we live in, especially if you are more focused on romantic entanglements. But it is important to keep actively searching for those friends just as much as your next crush!

You are constantly being exposed to new people and forming relationships with varying degrees of closeness in college, from the person you always sit next to Business Calculus to your go-to lunch gal. The difficult part is making time for those friendships to delve into deeper topics and form lifelong connections just like you would with romantic relationships. Ultimately, many of those friendships will last much longer than your hook-ups or brief flings. They will be the ones at your side during the highest of highs and lowest of lows, so start making an effort to cultivate meaningful friendships.

Finding your girl gang allows you to have a safe space during turmoil with school, dating, or whatnot. They are the ones you can vent to in times of need, have a Friday night in, and just be silly with. It can take awhile to get to that level of comfort but it is worth the work. Relationships are all about receiving what you put in and the best friendships are no different.

So if you have a girl crush on someone go ahead and DM her in Instagram about her cute outfit, join an all-girls club, and step out of your comfort zone. It can be difficult to form those real and authentic relationships, but you have to start somewhere!
