New York Fashion Week

New York and fashion are two things that go hand-in-hand. Every year, fashion students, celebrities and designers descend on one of the most popular cities in the world to observe the awe-inducing spectacle that is New York Fashion Week. The biggest names in the fashion world showcase their collections and in the designer business—having a great show can make you or break you.

I couldn’t possibly go into detail about all of the parties and events that occur during NY Fashion Week, but I can give you some insight into the biggest runway shows of this season.

Fashion Week started on Thursday, September 5th and will continue until Thursday, September 12th with the Calvin Klein Collection closing up this year's Fashion Week.

Since last Thursday, designers such as Rebecca Minkoff and Zac Posen have had their Spring/Summer 2014 collections on the runway. Upcoming shows include Tommy Hilfiger at Pier 94, Vera Wang and Nanette Lepore at STAGE and Michael Kors at THEATRE.

Fashion is something that brings people together, and you don’t have to be in New York to be a fashion guru! The Fashionistas at ASU speaks directly to collegiate women that love to rock their heels and wear a bold outfit, and they’re all about promoting the ins and outs of the fashion world! They’re also a great source for information about local modeling auditions, job opportunities in fashion, and internships.

And just so you know, New York isn’t the only city that likes to make a big production out of designers! Phoenix has its own fashion week that happens in October. The official schedule has yet to be posted but keep an eye out for more information. There are plenty of opportunities for volunteering, modeling or even becoming a member of the PHXFW team.

If you’re into fashion, take a moment to check out some photos from New York Fashion Week and to watch the shows live, check out their schedule
