As ASU heads into the homecoming season, there are a few things every party-goer should keep in mind.

ASU is one university made up of many campuses, and homecoming is the best time for students to explore other campuses! For a whole week, various homecoming events will be happening across all four campuses, and events range from a comedy show to a casino night. Last year I’d never dared to take a detour on the ASU shuttle just to see another campus, but the organization of different homecoming events in different sites made it so that I could see them all.

While it’s a no-brainer that different campuses will host different events, what’s unique about homecoming is that the campuses coordinate so that only one homecoming event happens on a given day. So if you’re interested in attending the dance but don’t care for football, you might have to go to another campus to find that. As a side note, last year the dance was held in downtown and I met so many people from other campuses!

Because there are so many people from different places, it’s important to know that these are NOT the kinds of events you should be nervous to attend by yourself. I know that no one likes showing up alone to, say, the homecoming parade, but people really do love meeting others and making friends from other campuses, and you should too. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, you might learn how completely different things are on other campuses!

On my first visit to the Polytechnic campus, I was surprised by how far outside the city it felt like I was. But I was even more surprised by how fun it was for an event I’d nearly backed out of attending. Devils’ Royale didn’t sound like much of anything, but in addition to crowning the homecoming court, there was a whole lot going on.

Part casino night, part dance party, part dessert buffet, Devils’ Royale was the event I didn’t know I needed. It’s not the kind of event you need to bring a date to, and Poly is the farthest campus so don’t expect to see all your friends from the West campus there, but that’s what makes it the best event. The people there really want to be there, and you’re more likely to make friends because of it.With all those stages I mentioned, there’s always something to move on to if you get bored, so it’s not like a dance where your options are the dance floor or awkwardly sitting at your table.

And Devils’ Royale is just one of many great homecoming events! Don’t forget to keep an eye out for other fun events like the carnival, parade, and lantern walk!
