‘Goes Without Saying’: the Perfect Podcast for the Girls

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ASU chapter.

If you’re looking for a new podcast to listen to on your hot girl walks or while you’re getting ready for class, look no further.

I’ve never been the biggest fan of podcasts, but ‘Goes Without Saying’ by Sephy and Wing has completely changed my mind.

I’ve been listening to this podcast for years now, and the two co-hosts have been like my big sisters through multiple phases of my life. Never have I felt so understood by complete strangers, and it’s time that I stop unintentionally gatekeeping and share this hidden gem with the rest of the girlies.

Persephone Deacon and Erin Mirali (who go by Sephy and Wing) are the creators and hosts of ‘Goes Without Saying’. With over 100 episodes and counting with titles ranging from “feeling behind: your 20s being ‘old’ is girl math” to “gatekeeping feminism: infographic-ed too close to the sun?” you are sure to find something that piques your interest. But be careful, you might become just as obsessed as I am.

Sephy and Wing discuss a range of topics in an unscripted manner that makes you feel as if you are just sitting on the couch having a conversation with your best friends. Both girls are based out of the UK, but they still throw in pop-culture references that you are bound to get if you’re a woman in your 20s.

If this sounds like the podcast for you, or if you’re not sure and want to hear it for yourself, here are a few of my favorite episodes you can start with:

‘everyday sexism: grab ‘em by the p*dcast’

Episode description: “we’re calling out the catcallers and canceling the patriarchy once and for all. join us (sephy & wing) as we discuss everyday sexism and share our own experiences with catcalling, misogyny, and ‘boys will be boys’ culture. we’re learning how to respond to catcalls and unwanted attention from the male gaze, but also how to stay safe in these streets. enjoy!”

‘pop culture tropes of desire: but daddy i love him!’

Episode description: “get in y/n, we’re going to fall in love!”

‘procrastination: the “gifted” kid to anxiety pipeline’

Episode description: “adhd, anxiety and under-performance…is there anything these girls can’t do? in this episode of Goes Without Saying, sephy & wing offer their perspectives and strategies for dealing with deadline horrors and achievement anxiety. your perfectionism is quaking.”

‘AI exploitation & tiktok misogyny: alexa, end the patriarchy’

Episode description: “echo-chamber tour!”

‘online authenticity & virtue signalling: perfection, but make it problematic’

Episode description: “your ~potentially problematic~ internet besties are back with another brutally honest episode of Goes Without Saying. join us (sephy & wing) as we unpack the facade of instagram perfection and ask the question: can anyone be truly authentic online? from virtue signalling to cancel culture, we’re discussing whether the aesthetics of wokeness have become more important than actually being a good person irl.”
