Fall Fashion When Temperatures are Stuck on Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ASU chapter.

Arizona is well known for its hot desert temperatures, but who says that you’re still restricted to those jean shorts, tank tops, and flip flops when it comes to what other parts of the nation call fall? Coming from out-of-state where snow is typical in November, this Arizona heat has been somewhat of a drastic change (okay, huge change!) While other collegiates across the nation are bundled up from head to toe to endure the brisk temperatures, we still seem to be stuck on summer. Instead of dragging out your summer wardrobe into November where temperatures haven’t dropped quite yet (if they ever will), HCASU will help you get in the seasonal spirit without breaking a sweat. Dressing like it’s fall certainly won’t make the mercury drop, but here’s some easy ways to transform your summer style into your own little world of fall.

1. Thin, lightweight fabrics

Neutrals, plum, olive green, burgundy, and browns just shout seasonal colors for fall, so look for them in thin, lightweight fabrics like cotton. Thin flannels are a must-have and can be found in various shades of colors. Chambray shirts are also perfect for the season and can be worn with just about anything. Pairing them with lace shorts or a floral skirt adds dainty details, and a scarf in the colors listed will instantly boost your fall mood. Add a pumpkin spice latte in your hand on the way to class and you’re good to go.

2.  Scarves

‘Tis the season for scarves! Since Arizona temperatures aren’t plummeting anytime soon, fill your closet with some lightweight scarves to accentuate simple looks. Play with colors and patterns for a little extra bulk over thin shirts. The possibilities are endless!

3. Jean vests

Jean vests are super versatile and are an easy addition to any fall outfit. Pair them with tanks, long sleeves, and even graphic tees for an edgy vibe. It’s an inevitable conclusion when it just feels like something is missing from the picture. Jean vests are great for layering when the temperatures do start to drop, so don’t let them slip too far away from your sight.

4. Boots

Boots! My newly discovered over-obsession with boots hasn’t stopped me from strutting them on my way to class in 80-degree weather. Adding a pair of slouchy boots to any dress or shorts make the look more seasonal. Discovering which boots look best with what can be a bit tricky to get right at first, but it’s fabulously classy and certainly seasonal. When the temperatures start dropping, slipping on a pair of leggings underneath is always a must.
