Emma Hopson: A True Sun Devil

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ASU chapter.

To end Homecoming week here at ASU, we decided to sit down and chat with one of the Royals herself: member of the 2014 Homecoming Court, Emma Hopson. Emma Hopson on paper is the perfect student: involved and diligent, although; off paper, she exudes so much more.

Hometown?

Iowa City, Iowa

Why did you want to come so far from home for school?

I wanted to come to ASU to challenge myself. I graduated with 68 other kids and though I love where I am from, I knew I had more growing to do. As hard as it was, choosing to attend ASU has been the best decision.

Major?

Majoring in Marketing, minoring in Sustainability.

How would your friends describe you?

I think my friends would describe me as a fun, energetic and caring person that they enjoy being around. At least I hope so.

What are you involved in here at school?

I am currently in Barrett, the Honors College, a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, give campus tours as a Devils’ Advocate and facilitate and teach two freshmen business courses.

What do you like about Homecoming week?

In specific, I love how it brings this large university together and helps everyone realize that we are one university in many different places. It’s an important time to remember our past and traditions, understand where we are today and our vision for the future. It incorporates the alumnae, students and faculty for a week celebrating all areas and successes of one of the greatest universities.

What do you think the Homecoming Queen and King should be like?

I think the Homecoming Royalty should embody school spirit and so much more. They need to be a leader inside and outside of the classroom, achieve academic excellence, volunteer in the community and be a person students can look up to. They need to embody the true sun devil way.

What is school spirit to you?

School spirit is having a passion for your university regardless of any success or failures that might come. It’s easy to have school spirit when your backup quarter back throws a Hail Mary pass in the last seconds to beat USC, but it’s important to have that spirit all of the time.

As a senior, what has been your favorite year of school?

My favorite year of school has been my senior year. Not only has it been fun to enjoy my last year with all of my best friends, but also it has been fun to look back on these past few years at ASU and realize how much I have grown.

What’s your dream job after school?

I’d love to work with a variety of different companies to analyze their practice and make their entity more sustainable.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

In ten years I see myself having completed a graduate degree, established in my career, and hopefully pretty happy. Maybe married with a kid or two.
