The Businessman With A High Top, Steven Johnson

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ASU chapter.

Steven Johnson, a Business Legal Studies major with a certificate in Ethics Studies within W.P. Carey, is making a difference within the ASU community by being an advocate and an example for other African American students. Being from Los Angles, California, Steven has dreams of becoming a successful entrepreneur and running a non-profit organization. He is a goal orientated and educated student, with a heart for giving and a love for God. Being a well-rounded and respectful man, he dreams big and will not allow anyone or anything distract him. Ladies and gentleman, our ASU Celebrity.

How have you left your mark at ASU? I am still working to leave my mark by reaching out to fellow students and helping them get closer to their goals.

What are the goals and objectives of BBSA? BBSA (Black Business Student Association) networks with students, professionals, and the community to ultimately equip students of all majors and backgrounds with resources to become successful.

How have you been implementing them? I have been implementing BBSA’s goals by telling everyone I know about BBSA and informing them about its value to various groups.

What is your biggest accomplishment? My biggest accomplishment so far has been becoming president of BBSA. It is empowering to be a part of a group of motivated individuals who believe you are capable of effectively leading them towards their goal.

What are past jobs you have been on? I was an intern with Mindblown Labs promoting a mobile game start-up where my responsibilities ranged from game testing to social media advertising. This year I’ve worked with Amazon as a Brand Ambassador where I promoted Amazon Student. Currently, I am a Sales and Marketing Associate with Just Breathe Wellness, LLC and an Operations Assistant at SkySong.

How do you measure success? I measure success in chunks. At this point I am working to be successful in increasing my value to employers. Later, I will work to have success in my professional life. Ultimately, I will know that I’m successful once I am able to provide for my family and benefit others.

How do you give back to the community? I give back through my volunteer work with BBSA. In the near future, I plan to become a volunteer at the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

How have you impacted another person’s life? My central focus now, is on current college students; I have not yet seen the fruits of my labor. However, when I talk to people from my hometown in South Central, they are interested in what I am doing and use my life as a tool for self-improvement. This translated to my non-profit organization goal. I plan to work with disadvantaged youth and teach them how to become desirable in today’s job market.

What will be the legacy you leave? I aim to leave behind a legacy of self-worth. I want all those I contact to know “You can do it!” I am a strong believer that anyone can become successful with the correct guidance and resources.
