October 11 was the local Breast Cancer 5k, and the Valley of the Sun did not disappoint.  Thousands showed up, and with multiple heats throughout the morning, it was impossible to capture the magnitude of the event in one picture.

In the picture displayed above, you can see those walking in the 2nd “Walker’s” heat, designed for families and groups who wanted to stay together. Many wore homemade tutus or capes, or sported some memorial banners for relatives or friends that have been lost to breast cancer.

The volunteers handing out water and the cheering and encouragement from the community made the excruciatingly hot walk bearable, and more fun then a triple-digit day ought to be.

All in all, this event was a huge success and succeeded in bringing awareness and raising money for the Susan G. Komen foundation.

Emily recently transferred to Arizona State university after hurting her knee playing college volleyball at another school. She is studying Sports Managment, and finds it hilarious when people are surprised a woman is studying that. She dreams of becoming a sports agent and earning a paycheck that helps her not stress about the cost of guacamole at Chipotle. Her best friends are her dogs because they don't judge her when she sings Tom Petty songs and dances while cleaning.Folow her blog here, her instagram is @embrunda, her twitter handle is also @Embrunda.
