90s Fashion is Back

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ASU chapter.

Whether we want to accept it or deny it, the 90s are making a comeback. While this might’ve been one of the weirdest decades for fashion, designers are revamping old, classic styles with some current, trendy flare this season.

1. Backpacks

We all wore those tiny, weird backpacks back in the day. Don’t deny it. They’re making a comeback, only larger, which means you can fit more stuff in them than in a regular purse.

2. Shoes

Try telling me you haven’t walked around campus and seen at least one person in Doc Martens or chunky platform shoes.

3. Crop tops

Back then they were paired with high-waisted mom jeans, but now they’re paired with flowy skirts or worn under a leather jacket.

4. Overalls

You remember them, right? Those things you swore you’d never wear again because they were too much of a hassle to take off whenever you went to the bathroom. Well, they’re back.

5. Bucket hats

Remember when you wore them and you felt like a dweeb? Now they make you look cool and have cool designs on them. I mean, just LOOK at Rihanna. So much style, so much shade.

6.  Grunge

Nothing describes the 90s better than grunge, but we don’t call it grunge today. They’re just stylish leather skirts and pants. *Please note Kylie’s Jellies. Also a 90s staple.

7. Camo

It’s not only for the rugged, outdoorsy kids anymore. This is high fashion.

My name is Alejandra Guillen and I am a junior at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and at Barrett, the Honors College. As most people do, I enjoy sleep, food (especially of the breakfast, gravy and meat varieties), and Ryan Gosling.
