If you were to ask any person what their favorite Rom-Com is  more than likely you’ll get a few people with the same answer, and that’s because there is definitely a right and a wrong answer when it comes to what rom-coms are top tier and which movies are at the bottom of the chain. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I wanted to show off my list of favorite romantic comedies for the guys and gals that are less into the gooey romance and more into the laughs.

Crazy, Stupid, Love

Now, this is number one for MULTIPLE reasons and the biggest reason of all would be the cast. It’s celeb stacked  with all the right people. You have Ryan Gosling to bring in the hot factor, Steve Carell to bring in the laughs, and even Emma Stone, who I’m convinced can do no wrong. The basis of this movie is even better than the cast itself. Steve Carell’s character meets Ryan’s and asks him for girl advice because he is going through a divorce and wants to get back out there. Along the way, Ryan’s character meets Emma’s and ends up dating her not knowing that she is Steve’s daughter. The situation leads to a big confrontation scene that is absolutely hilarious.

The First Time

Dylan O’Brien is the main character. That is all and that is the only reason I need to put for this movie to be on the list, but since it deserves more explanation here it is. This movie will forever top my list simply because Moose from the Step Up franchise makes an appearance and the soundtrack to this movie is amazing. Plus, the movie doesn’t try to dramatize high school and the extremely awkward first-time experience. Also, fun fact, this was the movie where Dylan met Britt Robertson and they continued to date each other for 6 years.

The 10 Things I Hate About You

This list wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t have a cheesy early 2000s film. The cast, the plot, the soundtrack, the outfits, everything about this movie is  a 10/10. Along with the fact that it came out 21 years ago and it’s still recognized as a top tier rom-com just shows how impactful Heath Ledger’s performance on the stadium steps singing his heart out to the classic “Can’t take my eyes off of you” was to all the people growing up in the 2000s. Don’t even get me started on baby Joseph Gordon-Levitt, his role in this is what brought my standards for men to a whole new level.

Mamma Mia

Look, I understand how some may not see this as a romantic comedy but it does have some laughs and  some romance, so in my book it counts.  How could I resist a movie when the whole soundtrack and plot comes from ABBA songs? This movie is a guaranteed hit if you’re in the mood to perform and watch a love SQUARE unfold. Also, the drama of the whole “who is her real dad” will never get old even when I know exactly who the father is.

The Proposal

This movie was life-changing. You have Sandra Bullock who is a mega star in the RomCom world and Ryan Reynolds who is gorgeous beyond belief and a comedic genius,  this movie was bound to make my list. The Proposal also included icon Betty White and I swear everything this woman does is amazing, straight down to her one-liners about baby-making blankets and singing “to the windows” in the forest with Sandra’s character.

Listen, there are definitely so many more movies that could be added to this, but if I did that, the article would never stop. I leave you with my current top 5 that I will be forcing my roommates to watch with me on Valentines Day.

Hey! This is Brianna and she is from Southern California or more specifically Coachella, yes where the festival is. She's currently majoring in Psychology with a focus on social behavior and is planning to get a marketing certificate. Fun Fact she has gone TikTok viral twice and highly regrets both times. Besides embarrassing herself online she also loves going to concerts, listening to oddly specific playlist, and going on road trips with her best friends.
