The 5 Best Mary-Kate and Ashley Movies You Forgot About

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ASU chapter.

Don’t lie–we all wanted to be an Olsen twin! The Mary-Kate and Ashley movies were simply iconic and defined my entire adolescence. They showed us an impressive range of roles, literally spanning the globe (their travel movies are my favorites!). If you haven’t thought about these movies in a while, here are a couple I recommend — they might not stand the test of time –but they’ll remind you of simpler days.

Our Lips Are Sealed

This movie made seven-year-old me think it would actually be kind of fun to be part of the Witness Protection Program (obviously not true). But due to some crazy accident, Mary-Kate and Ashley end up moving across the world to Australia! They do their best to enforce Australian stereotypes–vegemite and toast, anyone? And they meet quite a few surfer boys with accents (obviously). But the twins’ fashion statements, and frankly the most engaging plot, make for a fun watch!

Winning London

Did I decide to study abroad in London because of this movie? I’ll never tell.  I honestly don’t remember a ton of the plot–I think most of this movie was based solely on the allure of travel, which is good enough for me! Watch Mary-Kate and Ashley galavant through the beautiful streets of London, explore historic landmarks, and meet boys (obviously).

Passport to Paris

In yet another iconic travel film, Mary-Kate and Ashley go to France to visit a relative who lives in a crazy mansion. Throughout the film they’re constantly trying to get out of their pre-planned, boring itinerary to sightsee, hang out with models, and ride around the city with French boys (obviously). They’re really living my dream life. This movie is available to watch on Hulu!

Switching Goals

We couldn’t get through this list without a classic twins-switching-places movie. In this one, Mary-Kate and Ashley switch spots on their soccer teams. This movie might not be travel-themed like the others, but it’s refreshing and way more relatable. It’s reminiscent of your favorite Disney Channel movie and is a lighthearted watch. This movie is available to watch on Hulu!

Billboard Dad

Last but not least! Set in Venice, California, Mary-Kate and Ashley paint an ad on a billboard in a ploy to set up their lonely father with a new love interest. When their plan starts to fall apart, they have to team up with a local bully to get things back on track. This movie is created for an even younger audience than usual, though, so get ready for more cheesy jokes and less tween heartthrobs. This movie is available to watch on Hulu!

I hope these movies were a fun throwback to your childhood; I know I used to love them. It was fun to dream about Mary-Kate and Ashley’s fashion, excitement, and travel, and let’s be real, I still want to be them.
