It’s that time of the semester when even breathing feels overwhelming—not to mention the pollution levels soaring around us. But just like sunlight somehow cuts through the infamous PM2.5 particles, calmness will find its way to you too. This, like every other storm, shall pass.
Now that we’ve brushed past the clichés, let’s confront the real challenges: deadlines, exhaustion, stress, exams, anxiety, and so much more. It’s like a never-ending nightmare. Whether you’re pulling all-nighters in the library, reserving every ounce of patience for a group project, or battling existential dread while staring at the ceiling, this kit is here to help you get through it all.
1) Motivation
Okay, let’s face it, you’re not getting anything done if you stay stuck in the deep, dark pit of procrastination. Maybe you’re scared to start, or maybe you’re just too drained—but staying stuck will only make things worse. Be gentle with yourself and start small. Break down intimidating tasks into tiny, manageable steps. Often, just beginning is the hardest part.
Need a spark? Sometimes, a motivational Pinterest board or an inspiring YouTube video is all it takes to push you into action. Once you’ve started, momentum will carry you forward. Remember, one spark is enough to light a wildfire!
2) Coffee or Chai?
Let’s skip the coffee-vs-chai debate, shall we? Both have their fan clubs. Personally, I like neither—but their ability to keep you awake and focused earns them a spot on this list. Not into either? No problem; just keep a trusty water bottle by your side and stay hydrated!
Whichever beverage powers your late-night study sessions, make sure you’ve got enough supplies. And good luck dodging the queues at Fuel Zone, Blue Tokai, or Chai 24 during crunch time.
3) Planner
If you’re an “I just wing it” kind of person, let me level with you: finals week is not the time to wing it. But don’t worry—a planner, whether digital or analog, can be your best friend.
Break your study goals into bite-sized chunks, schedule your tasks, and—most importantly—block out time for breaks. Tools like Google Calendar or Notion templates can help you visualize your time and keep procrastination in check. Plus, crossing tasks off your list feels rewarding.
4) The Pomodoro Timer
Do you find yourself staring at your notes, unable to focus? Then it might be time to enter the Pomodoro technique—a lifesaver for productivity. Here’s how it works: you set a timer for 25 minutes of focused work, and then follow it by a 5-minute break. After four cycles, you can take a longer break to recharge.
This method keeps you sharp while helping prevent burnout. Feel free to tweak it to suit your needs—just make sure your “break time” doesn’t turn into an accidental Netflix marathon.
5) Snacks
As tempting as skipping meals sounds, we all know that it is not the best for your health. Are you thinking, “Who cares if I am eating if I fail my finals?” Well, spoiler alert, you will fail your finals if you have no energy to push through. If eating three balanced meals sounds too much, have some healthy go-to snacks like fruits, trail mix, protein bars, dry fruits, etc. And yes, chips are valid too—it’s finals week, after all. Just eat.
6) Power Supplies
Trust me, the last thing you need is having to run to your room from the library (or wherever you like to study) to get a charger when your phone or laptop dies. Keep your power supplies ready. If you feel fancy or simply need some serotonin, study outside and bring a power bank with you. When you are looking for sunshine in the toxic air, at least your devices won’t leave you in the dark. Who says finals can’t have a power-ful glow-up?
Bonus Survival Tips
1) Sleep Is Not a Myth (Maybe)
Let’s be real: you can’t expect your brain to work if you’re running on zero sleep. Sure, cutting back on hours may feel necessary, but aim for at least 4–6 hours a night (or day, if you’re a night owl). Even a quick nap can work wonders for your focus.
2) Study with Friends
Studying with friends can either be a masterstroke of productivity or a spiral of procrastination. The trick? Set clear goals and hold each other accountable. A little company can go a long way in keeping you motivated.
3) Celebrate Small Wins
Feeling buried under your endless to-do list? Take a moment to celebrate every small step you take. Finished a chapter? Reward yourself. Wrote a paragraph? Pat yourself on the back. Small wins can keep your morale high and your momentum strong.
Finals week can be undoubtedly stressful; however, with the right tools, you can get yourself through this!
