It’s finally February!

A month so short you’re never quite sure whether it’s coming or going.

Feb with its fluttering leaves! Feb with the promise of spring!

Feb- it’s almost -maybe -perhaps-summer!

The word February is derived from the Latin word Februalia which essentially means to “cleanse and to atone”; I’m not sure what we are attempting to cleanse this early on in the year, but February is also a great month, just to kick back, stop thinking and be

Be okay with where you are, be okay with where you’ve been,  be okay with where you’re going.

Hippie and abstract enough for you?

Either way, dump your bag, shut your laptop for a bit, and lie down on the sunniest patch of grass you can find on campus. Grin at the trees say hello to the flowers and stare at the sun till your vision is all splotchy. Take it all in, romanticize Tuesday, and grin at the grass like your Wordsworth on crack. Its almost summer, if that isn’t worth celebrating, nothing is.

I give you 20 songs for the next 20-odd beautiful days of February. Close your eyes, and use this as another excuse to nap in the sun.

Enjoy!:)

  1.  Let’s Be Still, The Head and The Heart

Mellow, lilting, and perfect. This song sets the tone for the rest of Feb.    Stop spinning like a Beyblade on crack. It’s okay to find a little bit of stillness every now and then.

  1. Sugar, Sugar! The Archies

Cute, retro, and chipper as hell. The Archies will have you swinging your hips like your grandmother after two shandies at a lawn party.

  1. You Can’t Hurry Love, Phil Collins

Just because it’s the 14th of Feb doesn’t mean you have to fall head over heels for the first person who tosses a rose your way. Chill out. Phil knows what he’s saying.

  1. Banana Pancakes, Jack Johnson

Hit snooze, screw the 3 pm class you’re going to nap in any way, and drift away into mellow nothingness with Jack Johnson and his perfect guitar as he professes his love for a pretty girl and banana pancakes.

  1. Lean on Me, Sandro Cavazoo

Ridiculously cute, and finally a track to break the mushy lovesong monotony. This one is sweet without being cringe. Give your best friends a hug and thank them for sticking through your bullshit with this song.

  1. These Tears, Andy Grammar

You just broke up with someone you’re still in love with…but you’re trying to see the brighter side of goodbye and whatnot. Perfect for self-care and all those thingamajigs.

  1. Where The Skies Are Blue, The Lumineers

This one is slightly more mellow, a little bit sad, with a hopeful undertone. An ode to the one that got away, or the one that still hasn’t walked in yet.

  1. Iko Iko, Justin Wellington

Nothing says summer is on its way, like this playful, Caribbean-esque anthem.

  1. All I Want is You, Barry Louis Polisar

Wholesome and heartwarming, this love song makes you feel like you’re doing a lovesick jig in a Scottish alehouse. Perfect for when you’re daydreaming under the February sunshine

  1. Haven’t Met You Yet, Micheal Buble

This ultra-peppy, uplifting song is oddly hopeful.

Tired of falling in and out of love with the wrong people? This song is for you. It’s definitely not you, it’s them! You just haven’t met the right person yet!

  1. Green Green Grass, George Ezra

This one is a personal favourite. It’s about really green grass and really blue skies. It’s not that deep.

  1. A Sunday Kind of Love, Etta James

Balmy, slow and impactful. It’s time for a little bit of introspection amidst all the lawn napping.

Sick of meaningless one-night stands and superficial hookups, Etta knows what she wants, do you?

  1. Beers and Sunshine, Darius Rucker

Rucker puts the B in Beer Belly. Keep it easy and mellow with this twangy bro anthem. “The only BS, I need is beers and sunshine.”   Eloquent. cute:)

  1. 60 Seconds, Quin XCII

This one is slightly more rap-py, and a little less dreamy.

17 missed calls, 20 unread texts, and assholes barging into your room like it’s theirs. This song is for the slightly less romanticized days of February when you just need a fucking minute to yourself.

  1. Clumsy, Fergi

Head back to 2008’s Juicy Couture, flip-flop-wearing, sparkly lip gloss era with this strangely catchy song.  Perfect for when you’re feeling all butterfly-ey and shit

  1. Build Me Up Buttercup, The Foundations

Sick of hot and cold? She says she’ll call you right back and it’s been 2 hours? Stood up for the second time this week? Hit play.

  1. Wildfire, John Mayer

Warm and toasty, like a long, easy conversation about nothing and everything curled up by a cozy orange campfire. Fall in love with a cute stranger with this warm, Montana-inspired Mayer track.

  1. The Sound of Sunshine, Micheal Franti, and Spearhead

I love, love, love this song. Franti defies the laws of physics and bottles up sunshine and giggles in this awesome song.

  1. Put Your Records On, Corrine Bailey Rae

Enter your That Girl era with this perfect, honey-in-a-tablespoon, toe-curling, soft, smiley song.

20.  Dont Worry Be Happy, Bobby McFerrin

Let it gooo!

Stressed out?

Worried?

Well, Bobby has a pretty solid solution to that- Just don’t be!😋
