Valentine’s Day Makeup Tips

If you’ve got a special date this Valentine’s Day, you’ll want to look extra special as well! Chances are you’ve already been thinking critically about how you’re going to doll yourself up for this romantic occasion. Check out these tips for perfect Valentine’s Day makeup:

1. Keep it sweet and simple

If you and your love are planning on staring into each other’s eyes all day and night, he’d probably appreciate it if you didn’t smother all your best features in thick eyeliner and dramatic eyeshadow. You want to look as sweet as the candies you’ll be sharing this holiday. This doesn’t mean you can’t go for your favorite date-look smokey eye or get festive with a little red or pink eyeshadow. Just don’t over-do it.

2. Beware of red

Red is the standard color for Valentine’s day but when using it on your look, be careful when using it around your waterline. The results can make you look scary or sickly if not done right…two S’s you don’t want to look on this day (try “sexy” instead).

3. Can the cherub cheeks

Cherubs are cute but chubby cheeks like theirs may not be everyone’s ideal look, especially those with already round faces. To slim down the face and make cheekbones appear higher, apply your blush the width of two fingers away from your nose instead of right on the apples of your cheeks.

4. Smooch-able Lips

Most guys fear lipstick because of the stickiness and the transfer of color onto their lips and face after kissing. To avoid this wear lip products with more stay-power and with a smoother texture. Think a lip-stain, tinted lip balm or lip butter.

5. All-Day Wear

Some of you may not know what to expect on Valentine’s day. Maybe you’ll be dragged off for a scavenger hunt mid-day or have a romantic dinner by candlelight. Whatever the case may be, you prepare yourself making sure whatever makeup you do stays put. Moisturize well and use primers (face primers, eye primers etc) beforehand. Then set it all with a makeup setting spray. Whatever type of makeup you do will be sure to stay put.
