Two University of Arizona students have started a club encouraging and supporting woman in developing countries in their education.

Madi Egan, a Nutrition and Molecular and Cellular Biology major, and Sarah Bosch a Neuroscience and Cognitive Science major, are the co-presidents of “She’s The First,” a national organization that has recently gained momentum on the UA campus.

Egan and Bosch are working at supporting woman in developing countries through funds and awareness of issues around the education access.

In today’s day and age, equality among genders is indisputable and “She’s The First” creates a physical platform regarding education in developing countries pushing for that same worldly equality.

Egan and Bosch’s mission is to create a space and an individual chapter of the organization here on the UA campus, where it’s members are actively working towards supporting woman in Gambia, a country in West Africa.

“We will raise awareness through events such as documentary nights and group discussions,” said Egan. “This year, we want to focus on improving access not only for education, but also for leadership development, with the goal of empowering girls with skills to affect change in their communities.”

“She’s The First” brings an important message to the UA campus through providing a space to discuss issues around woman education in the local community, which emphasizes the importance of woman leadership as a daily progression.

“We are expanding this idea to a more global setting by bringing the club to campus,” said Bosch. “Conversations about women’s education access on this campus lend an international voice to girls experiencing their own unique barriers, which provides an important step towards increasing awareness of our world’s realities.”

“She’s The First” plans on sending out information to all university students at the beginning of each semester. They hope that anyone who is interested, especially woman, will come to the meetings as support for equality in education world wide.

“We are so excited to expand the conversation that “She’s the First” has started to the UA campus, and we hope to build a strong, involved, and diverse club!” said Egan.
