Beauty Battle: Makeup & Facial Cleansing Wipes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Arizona chapter.

Sleeping with makeup and dirt on your face is one of the most common no-no’s that women do. Sometimes after a long day at work or a crazy night on the town, the only thing you can think of is how soft your pillow is. Makeup removing or facial cleansing wipes are a great, easy way to maintain healthy skin when you’re too lazy to wash your face in the sink. It may seem like there are too many options when you’re shopping for the perfect wipes. Keep on reading for some help on which ones to choose.

POND’S WET CLEANSING TOWELETTES

Quick Facts:

-30 wipes for around $5 at Target

-Contains Vitamin E

-Quilted, well moisturized cloths

-Medium soft/strong texture

-Soapy formula

-Grade: 3.5/5

These wipes aren’t the softest out there, but they aren’t scratchy on skin. These cloths are infused with a formula that smells clean and can be described as soapy. Careful not to get moisture from the cloth in your eye as it might sting a bit. It removes makeup and leaves your skin feeling fresh and clean without needing a rinse.

SIMPLE CLEANSING WIPES

Quick Facts:

-25 wipes for around $5 at Target

-Contains no alcohol, oil, perfumes or dyes

-Strong textured cloths

-No strong or unpleasant smell

-Inconsistent texture, moisture

-Grade: 3/5

Being that there is no alcohol, oil, perfume or dye in this product, it is a good option for those with sensitive skin. The cloth has a strong texture that sometimes feels soft and other times is scratchy. The main concern of this product is its inconsistency. Some cloths are soft and moisturized. Others are dry and rough. Sometimes you may need multiple cloths for one cleaning as one cloth may dry out prematurely. It does however do a decent job at removing eye makeup and waterproof mascara.

NUTROGENA MAKEUP REMOVING NIGHT CALMING WIPES

Quick Facts:

-25 Wipes for around $7 at Target

-Extremely hydrating

-Extra soft cloths

-Calming Lavender smell

-May need a rinse afterwards

-Removes stubborn makeup

-Grade: 2.5/5

These wipes are notably softer than the others. The formula used to moisten their wipes is extremely hydrating however it can be described as a greasy or oily feeling, almost like they infuse lotion in their wipes. The lavender smell is very calming and pleasant. You may need a rinse after using this product as it feels as if there’s residue or oil left on the face.

EQUATE FACIAL CLEANSING TOWELETTES

Quick Facts:

-Soft quilted wipes

-Leaves face feeling fresh and clean

-Clean smell

-Grade: 4/5

You get a lot more wipes for the same amount from this product. The cloths are soft and well moisturized. Moisture tends to settle towards the bottom of the pack though and as you get closer to the bottom the cloths become even more saturated. The formula isn’t greasy, removes makeup just fine and leaves skin feeling great, no rinse needed.

BOOTS EXPERT SENSITIVE CLEANSING AND TONING WIPES

Quick Facts:

-30 wipes for about $5 at Target

-Soft, well and evenly moisturized cloths

-Easily removes makeup

-Clean smell and feeling

-Contains no soap or fragrance

-Grade: 5/5

These wipes get the highest score because they are soft, easy to use and they get the job done, no funny business. There isn’t any perfume used in this product but there is a smell—which isn’t unpleasant or strong. The cloths are soft even after use when they become dried up. It removes makeup and leaves skin feeling great without that greasy feeling makeup remover can sometimes leave.
