Beat The Heat With a Frozen Treat

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Arizona chapter.

It is supposed to be 97 degrees in Tucson today! I haven’t decided if this is good or bad news yet, but I do know that with heat like this I am going to need a fruit smoothie. Although I love Jamba Juice and Xoom Juice for an afternoon treat, these options can get a little expensive. So here is collection of great smoothie recipes you can make from your very own kitchen.

Blueberry Grapefruit Peach Smoothie

1 cup pink grapefruit juice (freshly-squeezed is best!)

1 medium peach, remove pit and chop

3/4 cup blueberries

 frozen
1 banana

 frozen
1/2 cup ice

1 tsp maple syrup (optional)

Honeydew-Cucumber Mint Smoothie

3 cups peeled and cubed honeydew melon

1 cup chopped unpeeled English cucumber

2 tablespoons honey

1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint

 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

2 cups ice cubes

Garnish: sliced cucumber, fresh mint leaves

Blueberry Smoothie

6oz orange juice

4oz skim milk

2 cups blueberries ( I like to use frozen because they are available year around and make it awesome and cold, without need for extra ice!)

2/3 cup fat free vanilla greek yogurt
