The Top 5 Drake Lyrics (In Real Life)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

What is there to say about Drake that hasn’t already been said? He’s cute; he’s a good actor (for those of you who remember the Degrassi days); he’s extremely talented and successful; and most importantly, he’s a momma’s boy (and we all know what that means). But really, he has achieved so much and wasn’t even signed to a major record label until 2009. That goes to show how talented he is (and if that isn’t enough, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2011). So now, Her Campus is here to honor Drizzy Drake by giving you his top five song lyrics that can apply to many real life situations.

5. “You say you dropping 10 pounds preparing for summer/ and you don’t do it for the man, men never notice/ you just do it for yourself, you’re the f*****g coldest”Fancy (feat. Swizz Beatz)
Hold on, let me look outside and check if pigs are flying… They must be, since a man finally admitted that men don’t notice when your appearance changes—OK, that’s generalizing because there are some exceptions to the rule—but it’s true. If you’re looking to lose weight/cut your hair/etc. to impress a guy, take it from Drake that you should rather do it for yourself. You’ll feel more accomplished and won’t be bummed out if that guy doesn’t notice.

4. “Basically, to see a change in me I’d be losing, so I just ignore you”
Little Bit (feat. Lykke Li)
We’ve all had that relationship, and even friendship, where we think we can change the person for the “better.” Nasty habits? I can make him stop! Bad boy? I can make him good!—LIES! It’s not possible, believe me. They can see right through you and the whole act, so don’t be surprised if they “just ignore you.”

3. “She doesn’t ever worry, if she wants it she’ll get it on her own/she knows there’s more to life and she she’s scared of ending up alone”Houstatlantavegas
(Here’s my “girl power” spiel) We are fortunate enough to live in a society where women basically have the same rights as men and we can’t take that for granted. If you want something, you don’t need a guy’s permission to go after it! You might be scared that you’ll be the crazy spinster cat lady, but just because you’re independent doesn’t mean you’ll end up alone. You are going to find the guy that respects that you make your own decisions and admires your independence, trust me.

2. “All so convinced that you’re following your heart/ Because your mind don’t control what it does sometimes”Take Care (feat. Rihanna)
We’ve all been told that following your heart will end up in happily ever after (I blame Disney), but that doesn’t mean your mind has to always come second. Whatever you base a decision on, just remind yourself that you’re only human because you’re bound to make mistakes. And so what if you do? I don’t think there’s a single person on Earth that doesn’t regret a decision they made. It’s in our nature and you shouldn’t have to beat yourself up over messing up.

1. “Jealousy is just love and hate at the same time”-Over My Dead Body
Hello, most overused Facebook status and Twitter update of 2011! But rightly so: can you say rap poetic genius? (I’m obviously swooning over Drake here) I mean, this is just so perfect. I don’t even know where to start… Would it be too cliché to say “let the haters hate”? (Well, too bad) but it’s true. If someone is jealous, it’s because they hate that they can’t be you/have what you have. But I’m sure that deep down, a tiny, itsy bitsy molecule admires you. Also, my alternative explanation is: if you’re jealous of that girl that’s in your beau’s group, it’s clearly because you LOVE him and HATE her.
