First day of fall, y’all! The leaves are changing, pumpkin spice is taking over the world, and leather boots are everywhere. While you’re bringing out the new fall wardrobe, you might as well bring out a new fall playlist. Here are the top four artists you should add to your iTunes this season!
1. Lorde:
16 year old New Zealand pop prodigy Lorde is an emerging artist you can’t afford to miss. Not only is her soulful music prone to get stuck in your head for days on end, her innovative minimalist style is topped with fresh, relevant lyrics and inventive harmonies. Not to mention, it’s all self-written. Her debut album drops this month and she’s fast on the rise. Keep your eyes out for this one because she’ll be around for a while…she is only sixteen after all.
What to listen to: “Royals”
2. Bastille:
Indie electropop foursome, Bastille, is the next great British export. Their inaugural album, Bad Blood, debuted at No. 1 in the UK earlier this year and garnered similar success in the US with their stateside release earlier this month. Their unique sound features heavy bass drums and ethereal vocals alongside inspiring lyrics. Bastille’s songs often present deep, melancholic messages in upbeat anthemic melodies which not only feed the ears but also the mind.
What to listen to: “Pompeii”
3. Ariana Grande:
The only American artist on the list, nineteen year old Ariana Grande is poised to single-handedly redeem the pop music scene. She is reigning the focus back in on soulful lyrics and almost unbelievable vocal skill, a la the glory days of Whitney, Mariah, and Celine. Critics are already calling Grande “the next Mariah Carey,” and they aren’t wrong. Just listen to her cover of Carey’s “Emotions” on YouTube. At 19, Grande already has the talent to be categorized with the titan divas of pop music and her career has only just begun. You may have seen her in her roles on Nickelodeon on Victorious and Sam & Cat or heard her No. 1 Single “The Way” with Mac Miller. Her debut album, Yours Truly, was released earlier this month- a glorious throwback to classic ‘90s R&B. Remember the name Ariana Grande.
What to listen to: “Tattooed Heart”
4. Matt Corby:
22 year old Australian singer/song-writer Matt Corby is breathtaking in more ways than one. His voice is raw and his range is nothing short of incredible. Reminiscent of Jeff Buckley, Corby’s stunning vocals are backed by earthy, acoustic blues. His much too short EP, Resolution, was released in the US in early July and is slowing gaining a much deserved audience. As the icing on the cake, Corby is just as appealing visually as his music is melodically. You won’t regret downloading his EP and listening to it relentlessly, you won’t be able to help yourself.
