Taking a Trip to Boone? You Need to Try these Local Restaurants!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

There are so many local restaurants in Boone to explore. It seems like every restaurant in Boone has their own speciality or something they are known for. I compiled a list of my favorite restaurants in Boone along with my favorite items to get at each restaurant! If you’re headed to Boone this season, you *have* to try some of my favorite places!

  1. Macado’s

Macado’s is an Irish Pub located on King Street. Its proximity to campus makes it a favorite for everyone in town! They have a vast menu that includes wings, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and much more. Personally, I order the “Tonto” sandwich with a side of tater tots. They also have an AMAZING selection of desserts. My favorite is the cinnamon roll!

  1. Boone Bagelry

Located right across the street from Macado’s, Boone Bagelry is a favorite for breakfast. Expect it to be packed on game days, family weekend, and for other big App State events. They have bagel sandwiches for both breakfast and lunch, breakfast platters and coffee drinks. You can never go wrong with any of their items, but my favorite is the bacon, egg, and cheese on a pumpernickel bagel!

  1. Lost Province Brewing Co.

Lost Province is not only a restaurant, but also a microbrewery, making it very popular with the older students at Appalachian State. They have many fantastic food options and the vibe inside is amazing. It is not uncommon to walk into the restaurant and see a concert from a local artist.

When I go I always get a personal pepperoni wood-fired pizza!

  1. Comeback Shack

Comeback Shack is a local fast-food restaurant in Boone that is very comparable to Five Guys.

They mainly sell burgers but also have chicken, salads, veggie burgers, and sides. Depending on the season, a different speciality milkshake will be available in addition to vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. When I go to Comeback Shack I normally build a burger and get a strawberry milkshake (yum)

5. Sunrise Grill

Sunrise Grill is a favorite breakfast restaurant for Boone locals. In addition to the restaurant, they also have a coffee bar inside. While you might have to wait (it gets packed on the weekends), right next store there is a place to play mini golf! Sunset Grill has many menu items — but I love savory breakfast. Like Boone Bagelry, they have an amazing bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich.

6. Stick Boy Bread Co.

You can find Stick Boy Bread Co. products all around Boone. Appalachian State University on-campus coffee shops sell their bakery items but also have two locations around Boone, one for dine-in and the other for takeout. They offer an array of breakfast and bakery items, along with coffee and smoothies. Additionally, they also have a lunch and dinner menu and a kids menu.I have tried many of their pastries, both on and off campus. My favorites are the chocolate croissant and the spinach cheddar scone!
