Surviving The Summer As A Graduate

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

Congratulations, graduates! We hope you’ve got a killer job lined up, but if not, that’s ok! If you’re planning to stay in Boone for the summer, the goodies in our Her Campus Summer Survival Kit will get you through life as a graduate in the High Country!

We know you’re probably applying for a million jobs a day… But take a little break by your apartment’s pool and read a good book! If you’re like many of us, your bank account has seen better days and student loan payments are rapidly approaching. Check out Rich Bitch by Nicole Lapin. It’s an entertaining read and it will teach you a thing or two about better managing your finances as a young 20-something.

After an absolutely exhausting day by the pool, you’re probably ready for a little dinner, but who has motivation to cook? You’ve barely got motivation to revise your resume… Fear not, Chipotle has you covered. Grab a friend and one of the BOGO cards in our Summer Survival Kit and head to Chipotle! Plus, a burrito bowl will never tell you it has “moved on with more qualified candidates.” Chipotle, anyone?

But, before you go, be sure to grab an umbrella or throw a Boohoo pink poncho in your bag. You’ve been in Boone four years, you know by now that it could be sunny and 75 one minute and tsunami conditions the next… You don’t want a little rain to ruin your outfit. Speaking of outfits, since you just graduating, you deserve a little shopping spree! You’ve got the rest of your life to wear a suit, so buy some fun clothes for the summer! Check out boohoo. Plus, there’s a 30% discount code in the Summer Survival Kit.

And what goes better with a chic outfit than some cool accessories? We always love Chloe and Isabel jewelry, but we’re also digging Blink Tattoos this summer as a fun, unique accessory. These tattoos aren’t just for summer concert goers, so give them a shot!

Maybe after dinner you hit the bars with some of your fellow grads for a long night of celebrating unemployment… Oops, graduation. The next morning you’re feeling sluggish. What better way to get you energized than an awesome workout? Have some breakfast (and water) and then head over to the Crunch Live website for a quick workout! Since you have access to the site for 30 days, thanks to the Survival Kit, you should totally take advantage of it.

Pool, Chipotle, Gym… Repeat. Sounds like a pretty good summer, collegiettes! Don’t stress about finding a job–it will happen! Enjoy what may be the last of your summer vacations before you land a big girl job and remember to have a little fun in between all those job applications!

I am a 2015 graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. I graduated summa cum laude with a degree in communication, journalism. Upon graduation, I moved to Nashville, Tennessee to work for my college sorority, AOII. I am currently the Assistant Director of Communications of AOII and Editor of our internationally-circulated magazine, To Dragma. I'm a fitness enthusiast through and through. I love weightlifting, running and boxing, and I am always up for a new workout! I am also a coffee addict with a killer sweet tooth. When I'm not at work or at the gym, you can find me scoping out the latest and greatest coffee and donut spots in Nashville.  I've been part of the Her Campus team since 2012, when I joined App State's team of writers. I was the CC of my chapter my senior year, as well as a Chapter Advisor. I have remained a CA since graduating, and I love having the opportunity to stay connected to Her Campus in this role!
