Shefit: the Face of MKRH

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

Hi, my name is Kaitlan, and I have MRKH.

MRKH has many names, including Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser Syndrome, and Mullerian Agenesis, and it affects 1 in 5,000 female babies. It is a congenital disorder, meaning it is acquired during development and present at birth, and it affects the female reproductive tract. Basically, with girls such as myself, our reproductive organs did not develop when they were supposed to in fetal life, and no one knows why.

I, like my MRKH “sisters,” have working ovaries. The disorder is characterized by underdeveloped or missing uterueses, along with the cervix and part of the vaginal canal. However, it should be stressed that all of these women appear “normal”; you can’t tell if someone has MRKH by looking at them.

If you YouTube “MRKH,” you will most often see girls who have minor hearing loss or scoliosis, which happens to about 3 percent of the diagnoses. (This is one of those times where I do feel lucky because my spine is aligned and can hear fine.) You will also stumble upon support groups for women with the disorder, one of which is called ByMRKH.

ByMRKh’s celebrity spokeswoman, Jaclyn Misch, better known as Miss Michigan USA 2013 and past Survivor contestant, recently partnered with Shefit, Inc.

Shefit is a business that understands that every girl is different. That not all of you are going to fit into the standard bra cup size. The founder of Shefit, Sara Marie, herself (who is also from Michigan and won Miss teen Michigan and Mrs. Michigan USA) tried wearing multiple bras at a time and modifying them with clips and bands, which is why she created a sports bra that fits every single one of you collegiettes— no matter your fitness level or size!

Shefit is important to ByMRKH because it’s their sponsor and partner. Shefit has been featured on Fox17, The Today Show, The Doctors and most recently, Shark Tank!

For those of you who haven’t heard of Shark Tank, according to imdb, it’s an awesome ABC show where “ambitious entrepreneurs present their breakthrough business concepts.”

So naturally, Shefit founder Sara Marie just had to be on the show.

And if you happened to watch the newest episode of SharkTank on Friday, you probably saw that she just got a deal with entrepreneur Daymond John!

Check them out and support MRKH and Shefit today!
