Name: Megan Crisp

Q. What made you first get involved with an a cappella group?

A. I first got involved with Treble Attraction because I was in my school’s a cappella group in high school and I absolutely loved it. When I got to App I auditioned for the first group I saw flyers for, which happened to be Treble Attraction!

Q. Did you ever expect to become the leader of such an esteemed group of ladies?

A. I definitely always wanted to be a leader of Treble Attraction, and I certainly never expected to be asked into a leadership position so soon – I was made Vice President for my sophomore year and I’m President as a junior, which is really exciting, but definitely not expected. I love it, though. I’m really grateful that my group voted me to President so soon.

Q. Would you pursue being a part of a different group after graduation?

A. After graduation it completely depends on what I’m doing and where I end up going, so I honestly don’t know about pursuing another group once I’m out of App.

Q. What was your favorite song to sing as a group/solo?

A. My favorite song we’ve done so far is this fantastic (if I do say so myself) Destiny’s Child medley that we sang for the first time in the Spring of 2013 and have decided to keep in our repertoire. It’s got Jumpin’ Jumpin’, Survivor, Bills Bills Bills, Say My Name, and, of course, Bootylicious. It’s so much fun. We all have a really good time singing it, and it’s a real crowd-pleaser!

Q. How do you go about choosing songs for your concerts?

A. Most of the songs we sing are arranged by people in the group, and some we find online or borrow from other groups in other schools with their permission. If we arrange a song ourselves, which we usually do, the arranger can put together whatever song she wants, as long as the group is okay with it too. Treble Attraction has historically been a barbershop group, but over the past few years, especially since I joined two years ago, we’ve made a major transformation and now we like to sing all kinds of stuff, anything from R&B to pop to alternative – and we tend to learn more songs than we get to sing in big concerts, so we choose the ones that we have the most fun singing, that would resonate best with our audience, or that sound the best.

Q. Do you have any upcoming events?

A. We do have some upcoming events! We’re performing a few songs at a Habitat for Humanity fundraiser on November 8th and a few more songs at a community concert called Celebrate Singing on November 9th that we’ve been singing at since before I joined the group. The biggest concert we have coming up, though, is the school-wide Acapellageddon, where all the a cappella groups on campus get together and compete with each other. It’s on Sunday, November 17th. We’re so pumped and really looking forward to performing and seeing what all the other talented groups have in store as well!
