Sometimes, writing is very, very hard.

Naturally it comes right before a big essay or article you have due, something that will affect your grade in ways that make you fear your professor more than the Devil himself.

When it comes to writer’s block, there are some tricks you can use to help get your mojo back.

Take a nap

A quick 20 minute power nap can help you de-stress and perhaps find some new ideas when you wake up. Or, sometimes when you’re getting ready to go to bed, ideas will pop into your head, just as you’re about to fall asleep. Write them down, if you don’t do it now, you will forget.

Bullet points

Sometimes you know what you’re writing about, but not sure of what you’re saying. Make a bullet point list of everything that you know that has to do with that subject. This may help either give you the angle you want to write from, or some reference points to throw in later when you’re still struggling.

Look at the news/Buzzfeed/Elitedaily/etc.

Sometimes reading the way other people write can help you think about a new way to write something down and can crack the big block of “WHAT DO I WRITE” that’s been sitting on top of you’re writing skills for however long.

If all else fails….

The allegedly famous words by Ernest Hemingway are always an option; “Write drunk, edit sober.”

So, take a break and go grab a beer (unless you’re under 21, then you can have a juice box), then try to knock out your thesis or whatever.
