Fall is Upon Us: 5 Things To Do This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

Before we know it, Fall will take over Boone. The leaves will start changing to colors of deep red, vibrant yellow, and burnt orange. The mornings will be those kinds of mornings where you can see your breath while walking to your 8 a.m. Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year; a time for a new season, new adventures, and new opportunities. This beautiful season does not last very long in Boone, so take advantage of the extravagent scenery while you can. You won’t regret it!

1. Take a scenic drive.

Early fall to mid-fall is when the colors are the most concentrated and when the view is the prettiest. Take time from your busy schedule to explore the many different spots on the Blue Ridge Parkway to find that picture-perfect Instagram photo that will break 100 likes. My favorite spot is the Viaduct.

2. Host a Bonfire

Short days and cool temperatures are the perfect ingredients for a bonfire. Whether you are roasting some weenies, making s’mores, or sipping apple cider, enjoy that quiet, crackling sound the wood makes with your friends.

3. Do Some Photography

Photography is a great outlet for relaxation. It is a way to take a step back from reality and appreciate all that we have around us, using a closer lense. The colors of fall make for a perfect backdrop of some potientially great pictures. Blowing Rock is a cool place to visit, as well as the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Parkway has some awesome spots to hike to get that aerial view shot! Get out and find your escape!

4. Go Apple Picking

Apple picking is so much fun when you are picking with a group of people. There is a place around Boone that you can visit where you can pick apples, and enjoy a little bit of square dancing afterward. Not only do they allow you to pick apples and square dance, they have freshly made apple cider that is to die for!!

5. Enjoy some football.

Football is one of the best sports in bringing people together. Tailgating is one of the most American things you can participate in. From cornhole, to fried chicken, there is nothing like a Fall Tailgate in the Appalachia. If you enjoy tailgating so much, Appalachian State has a lottery system where you can win your own tailgating spot for you and your friends. Grab your cornhole boards, football, and sweet tea and get ready to tailgate.

Fall is a time people cherish because of memories like these. The colors are just an added bonus. Whatever you choose to do this fall, do it with your friends and have a great time doing it!!
