Celebrating July 4th in The High Country

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

Are you spending your summer in the merry old land of Boone? Or are you looking for some plans for Independence Day that are different from the usual beach bum and back yard cookout plans? Here are some ideas to celebrate the beautiful U. S. of A.!

1.The River. Every weekend, tons of families and friends can be found floating down a river in The High Country. Grab a couple of tubes and some friends and enjoy a relaxing few hours down the stream. You can also check out Wahoo’s Adventures to rent tubes and be guided!

2.Grandfather Mountain. There are some beautiful sights to see in Boone, and what better way to see them all than set aside a weekend to take in Grandfather Mountain? There are campsites, hiking trails, animal sightings, and more that would make for a great 4th of July weekend. You can rent a cabin, site for your RV or be a true mountain woman/man and pack for a weekend of backpacking and rough woods camping.

3.Boone 4th of July Parade. This Saturday there’s going to be a huge celebration of independence in downtown Boone. The festivals going to include fun games, plenty of delicious food, live music, and of course FIREWORKS! Downtown is full of great food, shops, and more that will make for a memorable weekend.

4.Hog Roasting. Now I know that name sounds odd, but this is a long-standing tradition and up on Beech Mountain will be the 47th Annual Roasting of the Hog! Food, games, live music… what could be better?
