Boone’s Seasonal Menu: What Not to Miss

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

No one does comfort food for the cold weather better than Boone. Now that the snow has already hit, make sure you try these local seasonal treats while they’re still offered. We challenge you to order every one of these at least once this season, you won’t regret it.

The fall/winter daily soup specials at Our Daily Bread:
It’s peak soup season right now and ODB offers the literal cream of the crop. We recommend their Curry Pumpkin Corn Chowder and their Butternut Squash Bisque.

Vidalia’s seasonal salads:
We know that Vidalia can be a little intimidating for a collegiette’s budget but their newly introduced fall/winter salads featuring all the best seasonal fruits and veggies like figs and butternut squash are good for both your wallet and your health. Not to mention, their artful plating is Instagram worthy.

Stickboy’s fall desserts:
Stickboy can do no wrong when it comes to desserts and their fall treats are no exception. Our favorites are the mouth-watering Apple Pie Cheesecake and Spiced Poundcake.

Appalachian Mountain Brewery’s seasonal ales:
For the 21-and-overs, AMB offers an awesome selection of local craft beers with the best hints of fall: caramel, chocolate, spice and everything nice. Their website recommends the Autumn Brown, Smoked Schwartz, Von Watzdorf, and Crooked Common.

The battle of the pumpkins:
You know it’s fall when the leaves change, the temperatures drop, and everything is pumpkin flavored. Since the amount of pumpkin treats is overwhelming, we compiled a list of our favorites:

  • Kilwins’ Pumpkin Fudge. They also offer a Pumpkin Walnut Fudge and a Pumpkin Pie ice cream flavor…go crazy.
  • Comeback Shack’s Pumpkin Spice Milkshake
  • Sunrise Grill’s Pumpkin Pancakes. I mean…come on. Pumpkin Pancakes.
  • Red Onion’s Pumpkin Cheesecake
  • Sweetfrog’s Pumpkin Pie Frozen Yogurt. Make sure to at least sample the Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake swirled option too.
  • Stickboy’s Pumpkin Bread. Like we said, Stickboy can do no wrong.
  • Pumpkin Spice Lattes/Chais. Even though Starbucks has the iconic PSL, every local coffee shop offers pumpkin flavoring for their drinks so pick your favorite brew and ask for pumpkin syrup in the spirit of the season. Surprisingly, Conrad’s Coffee in Central Dining Hall has a great PSL competitor called the Fall Fest Latte that has pumpkin, hazelnut, and caramel flavoring.

We can guarantee that the weather is only going to continue to get colder. So while you’re holed up inside, throw on some fuzzy socks and indulge in some of Boone’s best seasonal foods. This list is by no means exhaustive so if you have a favorite seasonal treat, let us know!
