1. Blue Ridge Parkway

Boone, being a mountain town, is packed full of beautiful scenery, so whether you go hiking, or you just want to park somewhere and take in the view, there are so many opportunities on the Blue Ridge Parkway. For all of you struggling college kids out there, this is the perfect venue for you! It is easy to get there, and its FREE. If hiking is your plan, but you aren’t the most outdoorsy person, go for Rough Ridge. It is fairly short and it doesn’t require too much strength. However, if you are going for a more moderate to difficult trail to impress your date, Beacon Heights or Profile Trail is the way to go. Now if you are just trying to chill and look at the mountain views, there are overlooks every mile or so along the parkway, so pack up a picnic, and pick your favorite one!

2. King Street Shops & Restaurants

King Street has so many options for food, whether it be Melanie’s, Our Daily Bread, Macados, or Mellow Mushroom, there is an option for everyone, no matter what you are in the mood for. Either before or after you eat, be sure to check out all the awesome local shops around downtown. Mast General Store is a must, especially if you want to get your date something sweet from the HUGE selection of candy. There are a lot of cool things to find in downtown Boone, set time aside to spend all day shopping and discovering all that King Street has to offer.

3. Downtown Blowing Rock

So yes, Blowing Rock is not Boone, but it is not a far drive and it has plenty of things to do to make up for the commute. Like King Street, downtown Blowing Rock has awesome restaurants, such as the Town Tavern, Storie Street Grille, and Bistro Roca. After lunch/dinner, be sure to make your way over to Kilwins for some homemade ice cream or any of the delicious chocolates or fudges made in house. If you are too full for ice cream or candy, you won’t be after catching a whiff of all that chocolate. It seriously smells better than Cinnabon.

4. Canyons Historic Restaurant and Bar

Canyons is a restaurant on 321. If you want to get food and an amazing view without going on the parkway, this is your place. It is situated on the side of the mountain and the back side of the restaurant is all windows, so you can take in the view as you enjoy your meal.

5. Woodlands BBQ

This is a really good place to eat if you want to go somewhere that is laid back with some good, homestyle cooking. Most students at App State swear by Woodlands for the best barbecue in the areas surrounding Boone. It isn’t too expensive, so this might be another good choice for all you broke college kids out there!

6. Twigs

Twigs is another good restaurant on 321. It is on the pricy side, so this is a place would be where you want to go if you are really trying to impress your date. In October, they even put Halloween decorations up.

7. Bo’s

Now this one is not in Boone. Bo’s is located just down the mountain in a town called Lenoir. However, it is well worth the drive because it is home to laser tag, arcades, bowling lanes, mini golf, and even batting cages. They also have a grill, so after you guys work up an appetite with all of the fun attractions, you can eat all the pizza and drink all the soda you two want.

8. Waterfalls

Boone is home to multiple water falls, whether it be Compression Falls, Trashcan Falls, or Snakepit, they all have beautiful scenery and cool jumps. Just hike up, and jump down into the refreshing water below. There are rocks to lay out on and eat snacks or just hang out after a long day of hiking and jumping.
