7 Things That Happen When You’re Too Busy For The World

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

For all of you busy collegiettes out there, you will appreciate this article.

College is literally like trying to run outside in 60 mph wind, with occasional hail, no sidewalk, and with your shoe laces tied together. Point is, it’s difficult.

Some people balance bio, chem, and algebra classes. Some balance club sports, greek life, and internships. Whatever you’re facing, just know that exhaustion is more of a “one size fits all” feeling than you think.

Balancing school, greek life, orientation, and an internship this semester myself – this is what I’ve learned to be true.

1. Your friends lives do not stop.

If you have friends that aren’t as involved as you, they will continue to ask you to do this and that. But it’s nice to feel wanted… even if you have to say no sometimes.

2. You find yourself making more excuses not to find gym time.

It sucks but it’s true. You end class at 3 p.m. and have a meeting at 6 p.m. and you’re wondering why you should get sweaty in those few hours. So much effort – so little time.

3. You get so pumped for the weekend.

You’d rather stay up all night finishing that English homework than even open up your bookbag all weekend. You’ll repack it Monday morning, just don’t make me upzip the death bag.

4. BUT…. then you remember you have work this weekend.

Or you need to gain internship hours over the weekend. So here we go again, lacing up to make it through two more days.

5. You value your alone time.

You are always with people during class, meetings, work, sorority – whatever it is. SO, when you actually get alone time to lay in bed (#rare), you value it and just want everyone to leave you alone. No I don’t want lunch. No I will not reply to your text. No you cannot come over to hang.

6. You try to go to bed so early just so you can make it through the next day.

But, this leaves you with no time to study or do homework – so now you have to wake up early and finish everything… and waking up early is horrible. It’s cold. Your face is greasy. Your nose is stuffy. And nothing involving the outside world is appealing.

7. Last but not least, you drink… often.

Drinking a glass or two of wine is just enough to keep your mind off of everything that you actually should be thinking about. It gives you a chance to relax and unwind, which personally is the only thing that keeps me sane most of the time. So pour it up.

Remember to never out-do yourselves collegians! Everyone needs “me” time, no matter how much you are involved in. Find what makes you feel better and make time to do it every day. Until then, keep working hard and being successful.
