5 Ways to Safely be with Friends During COVID

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

Let’s be honest, a big part of being in college or university is getting together with your favorite gals and going out. With COVID, it may seem as if adventures have to come to a stop. These 5 tips I’m about to share will hopefully give you and your friends some inspiration as to how you can still meet, go out, and have fun, safely during COVID.

Get tested

I know this step doesn’t seem like the most fun, but getting tested is very important if you want to meet with your friends and go out in the future. Getting tested means you have the peace of mind of being COVID-free. It also means your friends won’t have it either!

Go places you can social distance

You’ve been tested, that’s great! Now, let’s stay safe in case other people haven’t. Whether it’s going to an overlook in the mountains, hiking outdoors, walking on the beach, or hanging around campus, social distancing is a great way to know you’ll be safe. Grab a nice outdoor blanket, some tunes, and some snacks and you’re all set for a fun, relaxing day.

Make sure to check in

If there are too many stops in the way because of COVID, that doesn’t mean you have to disconnect from friends! Hop on FaceTime, WhatsApp, or Zoom, and catch up with your friends. Maybe even make some cute face masks together!

Have a movie night

For those of us who love a good movie, get with your group of friends, make a comfortable blanket spot, grab your favorite snacks, and enjoy your movie night. Not only is watching your favorite movie with friends fun but it also makes things feel just a bit more normal.

Go on a drive

This one might sound simple, but I promise it is super effective. When you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed, get together some of your friends and go for a drive to your favorite spot or a new random one. Put on your favorite tunes and take time to be present in the moment with your favorite people.

COVID has taken a toll on everyone. It is important to maintain some form of normality by being with those who make you happy. So long as you’re being safe and respectful of others during COVID, there is no need to lock yourself in your room all day. Go get some fresh air and enjoy the sun. Bonus tip, always have hand sanitizer in your purse and car!
