Switching Up Your Run

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Amherst chapter.

Lately I’ve been getting bored of just going on the same, medium-paced run on the bike path every day.  I was brainstorming ways to keep things more interesting, and came up with a fun idea for adding intervals into my runs.  I picked up the pace during the choruses of every song I listened to on my iPod, and slowed down when the chorus was over.  As it turns out, the chorus tends to come around much more frequently than I imagined.  I wanted to give Taylor Swift a death glare.  This workout was challenging but definitely kept the boredom away.  I recommend starting out by trying this with a two to three mile run if you’re a novice to intermediate runner, and then working your way up to six to eight miles in a few weeks if you’re feeling ambitious, adding on one mile each week.  Running with intervals is the best and most efficient way to burn fat and build muscle.  Happy running!
