Secret about Smoothies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Amherst chapter.

Confession: I have never made a smoothie before. And I’m a sophomore.

I do not harbor a deep-seated antipathy towards smoothies or anything like that. When other people offer me smoothies, I drink them. However, the fact remains that I have never made a smoothie before.

Why? Well, I can list plenty of disastrous scenarios.

  1. I would make five cups of smoothies. No one person is capable of finishing five cups of smoothie. I rate my smoothie ingesting capacity at one cup.
  2. Somehow the blender would explode. I don’t know how this would happen, but I’m sure it could. (Thinking of Murphy’s Law here)
  3. The resulting smoothie tasted indescribable, in a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad way.

These scenarios are all far-fetched in varying degrees, which is why I am determined at some point during my time at Amherst to make a smoothie. Fortunately there are many braver souls than me who have made smoothies before and deigned to share their favorite recipes with me, should I eventually screw my courage to the sticking place.

Bonnie is a sophomore at Amherst College. Even though she studies statistics, she is interested in technology, pediatric medicine, dentistry, education, and public health.  She spends most of her day trying out new things, like eating an ice cream cone while biking or looking for ways to climb onto campus building roofs. "All over the place" would be the best way to describe her.
