The “no makeup” makeup look was the latest fad, but it’s gone up to the next level: Jamsu. Jamsu is Korean for “dive”, and it is the latest makeup hack to not only attain natural-looking beauty, but also to achieve the sought-after “healthy, dewy” look. This crazy idea might sound familiar because last summer, Youtubers were encouraging their subscribers to bake their faces. Baking the face is another technique that magically sets one’s face. It required that people apply foundation like they usually would and then leave a thick coat of translucent powder for 10 minutes.
Jamsu, or water-dipping, is said to be faster and more effective than baking. The five steps of Jamsu is to:
-
Clean/moisturize your face
-
Apply foundation/highlighter
-
Pat on translucent powder
-
Dunk face in cold, tap water for 30 seconds (Please breathe if you can’t hold your breath that long)
-
Gently pat face dry with towel
If you simply look up Jamsu on Youtube, you will find many people testing this method. They usually start out very eager, but a couple seconds before dipping their faces in, they seem very pensive and suddenly skeptical. After their faces dry, most of them are so amazed that they are almost speechless.
The secret in it is said to be the application of translucent powder. Even though makeup gurus claim that this method is foolproof, it turns out that this step can be pretty tricky. You have to put enough to cover the face, but you cannot apply too much otherwise the powder will be left as an unflattering layer on your face.
(Unfortunately, Youtuber Sabrina Anijs discovered that this happened on her face..)
