New York Fashion Week Gives Us Trends We Can Work With

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Amherst chapter.

Another New York Fashion Week has come and gone, providing a sneak peek at designer collections for the upcoming Spring 2014 season.  While the clothes themselves are the focal point of most runway shows, the past seven days showcased some hair and makeup looks that are quick and easy to try on your own—and luckily, 2014’s beauty trends are much more wearable than the hair and makeup seen on the runway from the past few seasons.  Here are two makeup and hair looks you can try now:

The models at the Monique Lhullier, DKNY, and Prabal Gurung shows sported a bold lip paired with an understated eye.  Some even appeared to being wearing no liner, mascara, or shadow at all.  This look is easy to replicate—a fresh face is all you need, plus a few swipes of a bright lipcolor.  Bubblegum pink, coral, and warm red shades were all popular on the runways this week.  If you’d like to play up your eyes at the same time, a bit of black mascara is all you need.

Running late on a Monday morning?  Short on time to do your hair?  You’re in luck—tousled, messy hairstyles were spotted at lots of runway shows this week, most notably Michael Kors and Proenza Schouler.  Rachel Zoe’s models wore undone French braids that you can do in a pinch—remember, the point is to look messy!
