My Semester Abroad: Prague Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Amherst chapter.

Welcome to Squid’s house

HAY! I’m writing this while I should be doing homework for class, but it’s abroad so who cares! I’ve been busy appreciating spring in Czechia (the newly Americanized version of the Czech Republic). Beer gardens are open, paddle boating is happening… and im readddddyyyy to PAAAARTY!! This past weekend I went on a class trip to a cute lil Czech town called Cesky Krumlov which was so mini and awesome. They had a ridiculous amount of pubs and bars—our teacher told us they were “happening” but upon arrival it became clear that “happening” in a small Czech town means they have unused pool tables and empty tables. It was still great though! We learned some stuff that I’ve already forgotten about but it was definitely impactful at the time. Best part about the trip was our waiter at dinner… he was so happy and Czech and he had studied abroad in American and was just so happy to have us. It was a vegetarian restaurant which was random but also probably the healthiest food I’ve eaten since January–Croatia bod 2k16 ;)

After getting back from the field trip I felt refreshed and not hungover which rocked! I ate food the rest of the weekend with friends… naturally. I started my Sunday with a brie and apple quesadilla thing that was pretty bomb. Food in the Czech Republic is not as bad as it sounds, but that’s mostly because true Czech food is readily available. This week I also tried the Hemingway Bar for the first time. AMAZING. Actually the best drinks ive ever had and they were served in these cool glasses/perfume bottles/vases. I loved it—it was relatively upscale so naturally the guys went to the symphony beforehand in suits and then proceeded to order their personal drinks at the bar… It’s been a very Czech week with no SUUUPER exciting events to tell about. After springfest this weekend I’m sure my post will be a little bit different!
