Homecoming 2015 Sports Recap

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Amherst chapter.

What a homecoming it was for the Purple and White! Amherst College went 7-0 this past Saturday on our homecoming weekend. Volleyball, Women’s Soccer, Men’s Soccer, Field Hockey, and Football all contributed big wins to make it a tremendous weekend for Amherst sports. I was able to watch the Football and Field Hockey games, and both teams were dominant against Wesleyan. It was certainly a great day to be a Lord Jeff!

Volleyball got the weekend rolling with a big win in LeFrak gymnasium on Friday night. The “Firedogs” beat Vassar by a decisive score of 3-0. They went on to shut out their next to opponents, Brandeis and Bridgewater State, on Saturday.

Women’s Soccer and Field Hockey got Saturday morning off to a big start, with both teams earning shutouts against Little-Three foe Wesleyan University. Women’s Soccer defeated Wesleyan 2-0 while Field Hockey beat the Cardinals 7-0. Saturday was senior day for both teams, and one could certainly say the seniors led both teams to a commanding victory.

Football continued the winning streak by beating Wesleyan 27-18. Football came from behind in the first quarter and from there they became too much for Wesleyan. With this win, Football is now 5-0 and remains in first place in the NESCAC.

Men’s Soccer rounded out a terrific day with a 5-0 defeat over the Cardinals. The Purple and White are also number 1 in the NESCAC and have not yet lost this season.

As NESCAC playoffs begin this weekend for several teams, I am feeling optimistic about Amherst’s chances to bring home some banners this fall!
