So it’s that time of the year, ladies: the end of the semester. While it’s a time to celebrate your finals being over and you can finally see your friends from home (not me personally; I only care about my dog). You are on your way back to enjoy familiar food, and the comfiest and warmest embrace of your bed. Four totally stress-free weeks to yourself! Until you remember that you just started dating some really cute and funny guy or girl that you met this semester and now you have to be away from them for FOUR LONG, COLD WEEKS, in a completely different state.
Now that I’ve popped your bubble of elation, you may realize that the paragraph above perfectly describes your situation. There’s really not a lot to it; you’ve just got to breathe. Nobody can think straight when they’re frantic and in a tizzy. It all comes down to how you would classify your relationship with your special someone. You’ll definitely want to have a brief, but thorough conversation with them just to get a feel for what you wanted your relationship to be defined as for the two of you. If you’ve done this already, then you’re ahead of the game.
If you guys decide to stay together, that’s awesome! Be sure to stay in touch through texting and Skype. You don’t have to go crazy and hit them up every single day, but at least 3-4 times a week would definitely show that you miss them without being too clingy. When you’re too clingy, you may find that they’re hard to find when the Spring semester starts up. Depending on how far away from each other you are, you could schedule a few days to stay with each other, like over New Year’s. If they want to keep it casual and not be necessarily “in a relationship” while they’re home, then you either have to accept them for what they want, or move it along.
That’s not a reflection on you, it’s that we are all in college and everybody will be ready for a relationship at different times in their lives. Hopefully everything works out in the manner you hoped it would, so don’t worry too much, because now we have a plan!
Deuces,
Jalen
