Why I Love Living with My Best Friends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

People sometimes say to not live with your best friend(s) because it can affect your relationship with them. Whether it’s you always buying home items, or your roommate always cleaning the toilet, people think it’s best to steer away from living with their best friends because they don’t want to ruin their friendship. For me, this is never the case. This year, I live with my best friends and I couldn’t be happier; we agree on everything. We split up food and cleaning supply purchases, and always respect each other’s space when we are studying. Although one will be going abroad in the spring, that won’t stop us from having a close-knit relationship.

Unlike awkward, random roommate selections, my roommates and I have made traditions, and the semester isn’t even over yet. One includes our ranting sessions on our kitchen floor late at night. Basically, a time for us to complain about boys, classes, what’s on our minds, or even random jokes. No matter what we say, we can always count on each other to give moral support, advice, or a hard laugh. We get each other through the panic attacks, tears, and frustration.

Besides hanging out in our apartment, we love to go out and have a good time together. Whether that’s night monumenting or stuffing our faces with cheesecake, we always love to have a good time with each other. Anytime one of us wants to try something new, we just text our group chat, known as “Gaston” from one of our many late night, kitchen floor jokes.

My friends and I never get sick of seeing each other. Yes, we have our crappy days or days where we do not want to deal or interact with anyone. However, that doesn’t apply in our apartment. On those days, we come home and see each other to feel uplifted, because a smile is never far way with my roommates.

If you think you are ready to live with your best friend, go for it! If you have the same mind-set and living standards, then you’re in for a treat! Not only will your friendship grow in general, but by living together as well, showing that you guys can deal with anything that comes your way, from one kitchen floor rant to the next!
