Top 5 Things to Send in a Care Package

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Have friends abroad this semester? Missing your high school friends who attend a different college than you? Then you should consider brightening their day by sending them a care package. A care package is a box filled with goodies that you send to someone you care about. Sometimes care packages are themed and other times they are filled with a medley of items. Particularly with Valentine’s Day coming up, you might want to consider sending a love-filled package to your fellow collegiettes or to a special someone. Here’s a guide to creating the best care packages. Who knows, maybe your friends will enjoy them so much that they’ll send you one in return!

1. Snacks and Sweets

Let’s face it, we all love food. Fill the care package with a variety of snacks including chocolate (for bad days), trail mix (for protein), chips (for on-the-go), gum and mints (to help concentrate in class) and granola bars (for energy). Just remember not to include any perishable items!

Recommendations: Dove Dark Chocolate, Berkley&Jensen Gourmet Trail Mix, Lifesavers Winter Green Mints

2. Cold Remedies

In college, every season is cold season. Stock your friends up with some vitamin C and herbal remedies to help them stay healthy. Tea, vitamin C cough drops, cold-prevention packets to mix with drinks and packs of tissues are all essentials!

Recommendations: Twining’s Pure Herbal Chamomile K Cups, Emergen-C drink Mix

3. Sentimental Item/Inside Joke

Everyone has personal jokes and special memories with their friends. Often times recalling these memories can be funny or sentimental. Make a list of the inside jokes you have with your friend, print out pictures of your favorite memories hanging out with them, or place a unique trinket in the care package that symbolizes a joke or memory the two of you share.

4. Personal Letter

Chances are your friend is missing you just as much as you miss them. Writing them a letter about what you have been up to and about how much you miss them is a meaningful way to show you care. Even if the two of you text or FaceTime regularly, a hand-written letter will always have a special place in everyone’s hearts.

5. School Supplies

By second semester many college students may be starting to run out of school supplies they bought back in August. Add a pack of sticky notes, paper clips and highlighters to the package.

Recommendations: Personalized Sticky Notes from Etsy
