It might have seemed far away with finals on your minds, but winter break is here, collegiettes. Get ready for family festivities, comfy sweaters, Netflix marathons and high school friends. Here are 10 ways to make the most of your time at home with high school friends.
1. Girls Night Out
While you’ve been studying hard at school, your hometown has probably been busy too. Plan a girls night out with high school friends to check out new restaurants in your area. Break out your favorite dress, make a reservation and enjoy a night on the town.
The classic holiday gift exchange never gets old. The first week of break, invite a group of friends to get together and host a white elephant exchange party. For gifts, think dorm decorations, hometown memorabilia and childhood nostalgia. Make sure to get the hot cocoa!
3. Oscar Movie Night
Get together with friends and educate yourself with past winners. Check for all the films. For a snack, toss some cinnamon and sugar in your popcorn for a winter kick.
4. Clothing Swap
Trade in your old clothes for some new ones. Head to whichever friend has the best mirror’s house and swap your clothes with your girlfriends. It’s a guilt free way to get new outfits for the spring semester while not having to give up your old clothes permanently or spending money.
5. High School Visit
Even if you couldn’t be happier to have high school behind you, it’s still fun to see how the old hallways are doing. Lots of schools have holiday concerts where you can see everyone at once, while still being able to duck and cover around that teacher who hated you. Go with other high school friends to make the most of it.
6. Thrifting
Save your pennies and find some new clothes at your local thrift store. Having lots of time while thrifting is essential, so find an open day and shop away with friends. Bring a camera along to document the craziest outfits you can find.
7. Sweater Party
The sweater party will never get old. Find one while out thrifting and host a holiday movie night and sweater competition. Make categories for sweaters to compete in and award holiday goodies for the best ones.
8. Assassins
Get together your graduating class and organize a game of snowball Assassins for the winter break. Rules can vary, but here are the general guidelines.
9. TV Throwback Marathon
Have a weekend marathon of you favorite childhood shows. Think Lizzie McGuire, Phil of the Future, and That’s So Raven.
10. Sledding Competition
If your hometown gets snowy, grab your sleds and compete on the slopes. Tricks, speed, greatest number of people on a sled and anything you can think of are great ways to bring old friends together in friendly competition. Just don’t break any bones!
