The website was started to give more attention to the everyday amazing things non-profits and people all around the world are doing by collecting their videos and promoting them on the website with catchy titles and clever introductions. There are currently 19 different categories to refine video topics to the viewer’s tastes including inspirational, environment, gender, health and international. All potential viral videos, whether about important social justice issues and current events, or videos that simply share a smile through a random act of kindness, now have a platform for worldwide attention that can further be shared on your own social media account. 

In just one year, Upworthy has gone from virtually unknown, to one of the most viewed websites on the internet, boasting 50 million unique visitors in the past month—comparable to the traffic of Time.com and Fox News.
