Sarah Liebman: President of Delta Kappa Alpha ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Meet Sarah Liebman, a current sophomore in American University’s School of Commincations, president of the founding colony of Delta Kappa Alpha (a co-ed, professional cinema fraternity) and among the busiest of students on campus. Reigning from Acton, Masscusetts, Sarah has made it a personal goal to promote institutional change from within SOC that will affect the individual student’s experience at large while at AU.

Her Campus American Univeristy: Who is Sarah Liebman?

Sarah Liebman: A sophomore who loves minions and laughing!

HCAU: Can you tell us a little bit about DKA and what your role is within the organization?

SL: Delta Kappa Alpha is a national cinematic arts fraternity with the purpose of creating a tight cinematic community on college campuses and life-long bonds between students with similar career goals. I am the president of the fraternity so my job is to oversee and facilitate all of DKA’s activities.

HCAU: What made you decide to get involved with DKA?

SL: It seemed like a great way to get connected with other film students on campus in order to collaborate and learn from them.

HCAU: What are some of the goals that DKA wishes to accomplish in the future?SL: We want to create a close, motivated and creative cinema community on campus. We hope to establish long lasting traditions of annual film festivals, film series and master classes. We’ve already attended a screening of SOC professor Claudia Myers’ film Fort Bliss (which is currently in theaters) and organized a Q&A with her! It’s also important to note that despite our cinematic description, you do not have to be a film major to join! You just have to have a passion or interest in cinema.HCAU: What has been your favorite part about DKA so far?SL: My favorite part has been watching the current members get closer while working together to make DKA have an excellent presence on campus. I’m also really excited for our first semester of recruitment and to meet more motivated film students!HCAU: What other activities are you involved in on campus?

SL: I am also involved with ATV and Phi Sigma Pi.

HCAU: What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?

SL: I can do the worm!

HCAU: If you could go back in time and tell freshman year Sarah one thing what would it be?

SL: Slow down, you don’t have to do everything at once.
