We’re at that point in the semester where we all heave a sigh of relief to be either finished or almost quite done with our midterms, only to draw in a sharp breath of nervousness and anxiety when we realize what follows next— midterm results. The nervous wait for that dreaded blackboard update and the mental debate of how many classes you can skip before you have to face getting your assignment handed back to you are a struggle that most if not all of us go through. While you wait, it’s important not to freak out and overthink, which is easier said than done. To make it easier, here are some tips to keep the tension at bay.

1.Spend time with your friends

As much as you think that you might be the only one, all of your friends are currently in the same boat. Everyone is currently stressing out. Its always best to stress out together, because it not only brings you closer but lightens up your mood and leaves you feeling significantly better that you’re not alone.

2. Immerse yourself in your daily activities

As futile as this may seem, if you throw yourself into your day to day routine and focus on your classes and activities, you’ll find that the dread of waiting for results isn’t as bad as you expected. In fact, you might even find the thought of them occasionally slipping your mind.

3. Use your go-to destresser

We all have that one thing that relaxes us, ranging from yoga to reading to running. Make it a point to make better use of your time. Instead of allocating it to stressing, do what you love instead. Even if that means simply taking a nap, work it into your schedule.

4. Remember your professors are there to help

All of your professors want you to succeed and do well, not just in their classes but in your life as a whole. If after a midterm you feel unhappy with the way it went, remember that you can always reach out to your professors ( or your TA!) and they can help you figure out how to be better prepared for future assignments, which is a huge help when finals roll around.

5. It’s never the end of the world

This one is the most important. No matter what your grade is, it’s integral to remember that it is NEVER the worst thing ever. One grade does not define you, not as an individual and not as a college student. There is always a possibility of improvement. All you have to do is take it in your stride and work even harder. That said, a little ice-cream always helps with this.

Midterm madness is always a rough pill to swallow but with a little confidence, friendship, and chocolate, you’ll breeze through it!
