In case you missed the news, here are some of the major pop culture moments from the week!

1) Kim Kardashian is engaged (again)! Kanye West proposed to her in San Francisco at the AT&T baseball park as part of her 33rd birthday celebrations. West had an orchestra, giant sparkler lights and the jumbotron set up to say “PLEEEASE MARRY MEE!” Kardashian wore a white and blue Valentino dress that complimented her blonde hair and her 15-carat Lorriane Schwartz engagement ring. Her family and friends were waiting in the dugout to surprise her after West proposed. The couple has been together almost two years and have an almost five-month-old daughter, North West.

2) The royal christening: Prince George was christened at St. James’ palace in London on October 23rd in front of a very small group of people including Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles, Prince Harry, Kate Middleton’s parents Michael and Carole and her siblings Pipa and James. Prince George will have seven godparents all of whom are very close friends of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. He wore a christening gown made by Angela Kelly, the dressmaker for Queen Elizabeth II.

3) Bye-bye Jonas Brothers: After canceling their tour without any explanation almost three weeks ago now, the band announced on October 29th that they are officially splitting up. They explained that as a band they did not want the same things anymore and each had other personal goals to pursue. According to E! News’ report, Joe wants to try acting and pursue his own music, Nick wants to pursue music and possibly another Broadway stint, and as most know by now Kevin’s wife Danielle is going to be having a baby early in 2014 and he wants to focus on that.

But just in case anyone is wondering, they are still going to be brothers.

Finally, in important world news: Saudi Arabia turned out a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council last week, a rather unprecedented move by any country. According to a Huffington Post article by former ambassador S. Asmat Hassan, Saudi Arabia claimed it was turning down the seat because it felt the council had not done enough in resolving Israel-Palestinian conflict or in the on-going civil war in Syria. Hassan believes the deeper reason the Saudis did not take the seat was because they were opposed to the veto that the “P5”, or five original, permanent members of the Council (the United States, Great Britain, France, Russia and China) have over all the decisions. Others speculate that this decision to turn down a seat shows that Saudi Arabia does not see the UN as an organization that is particularly relevant to them anymore which speaks for the legitimacy of the organization as a whole.
