November Movie Releases: 5 Films To Watch This Month

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Following the festival circuits and in preparation for awards season, the fall movie release schedule is packed. Here are seven upcoming movie releases to be on your radar for November.

“The Fabelmans”

For Steven Speilbergs latest film, he’s taking on a story about – well – himself. “The Fabelmans” takes place post-WWll Arizona and centers around a young boy and his love for films. The cast includes Michelle Willams, Paul Dano, and relative newcomer Gabriel Labelle. The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and is set to hit theaters Nov. 11, 2022. Will this semi-auto-biographical film get Spielberg his 3rd Best Director Oscar win? Only time will tell.

“Bones and All”

As oddly timed as ever, Luca Guadanigno’s latest film “Bones and All” is a love story between two socially ostracized teens, Maren and Lee, played by Taylor Russel and Timothee Chalamet. The film brings carnal, brutal horror elements (*cough* cannibalism *cough*).

Considering the eerily carnal and brutal subject matter, the film received an eight and a half minute long standing ovation at its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. “Bones and All” will be officially released in theaters Nov. 23.

“Causeway”

Marking Jennifer Lawerences highly anticipated return to the screen, “Causeway” centers around a former U.S soldier who has suffered a traumatic brain injury, and the effect that it’s having on their return to life back home. Directed by Lila Neugebauer and written by Luke Goebel, author Ottesa Moshfegh and Elizabeth Sanders, this A-24 indie has had a lukewarm reception. Nevertheless, “Causeway” will be released on Apple TV+ Nov. 4.

“The Wonder”

After the ”Don’t Worry Darling” fiasco, Florence Pugh is back in the conversation with the new Netflix film, “The Wonder”. Set in 1862 Ireland, Pugh plays a nurse who is brought in to care for a young girl who has stopped eating, and yet, survives alive and healthy. “The Wonder” is directed by Sebastián Lelio and stars Niamh Algar and Ciarán Hinds alongside Pugh. The film will be released on Netflix Nov. 16.

“The Menu”

The Menu is a culinary-tinged horror/thriller that follows a young couple on their trip to eat at a highly exclusive restaurant in a remote location. Starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult as the young couple, and Ralph Fiennes as the demanding and elusive chef, “The Menu” is likely to draw in foodies and horror-enthusiasts alike. This Mark Mylod directed feature will be released exclusively in theaters on Nov. 18.

Bonus:

While both of these Netflix movies are not set to officially release until December, both films are running special sneak peaks in theaters this November.

“Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery”

Following the success of “Knives Out” in 2019, Rian Johnson is back with “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery”.

Like its 2019 predecessor, “Glass Onion” is another whodunit with a star-studded cast, featuring Edward Norton, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, Madelyn Cline, Janelle Monáe, and Kathryn Hahn (among others) with Daniel Craig returning as detective Benoit Blanc.

This mystery will take place in a glamorous private estate in Greece and is likely to please audiences, following widely positive critical reception.

“Glass Onion; A Knives Out Mystery” will be shown in theaters for an exclusive one-week run starting Nov. 23, ahead of its Dec. 23 streaming release.

“White Noise”

Noah Baumbach is back, and with a familiar crew accompanying the film. “White Noise” stars his wife, Greta Gerwig, Adam Driver, Raffey Cassidy and Jodie Turner-Smith

While it hasn’t had much success with critics so far in its festival run, the film is rumored by IndieWire to have had one of the biggest budgets of any Netflix movie yet, and is sure to draw audiences with its secretive marketing and mysterious, untelling plot synopsis and trailer. The film centers on a suburban family whose life is thrown into uncertainty following a chemical leak nearby.

“White Noise” will be shown in select theaters ahead of its Dec. 30 streaming release on Nov. 25.

Whether you like horror, mystery, indie, or blockbuster’s, there’s something for everyone this month. So grab some friends (or don’t) and pay your local theater a visit to enjoy these new releases.
