American University sophomore, Mariah Redfern, describes herself as quirky and accepting!

Name: Mariah Redfern

Major: History

Minor: Political Science

Hometown: Easton, Massachusetts

Relationship Status: Lonely and sad

Her Campus American University: What are you involved with on campus and in the DC community?

Mariah Redfern: I’m in Phi Sigma Sigma soroity and I co-host a WVAU radio show called “Litty Kitty w/ Mimi and Kiki” on Saturdays from 7-8pm. I’m also a Freshman Service Experience leader.

HCAU: What is your favorite meal?

MR: Chicken, rice, and gravy.

HCAU: What is something most people don’t know about you?

MR: I play the guitar…a little. I also used to write my own music.

HCAU: What is your favorite movie and why?

MR: Freedom Writers because I think it did a great job at highlighting the problems in the educational system, that are also applicable in other parts of life. But it also gave hope that you can do something to improve.

HCAU: What is your go-to song and what genre do you love the most?

MR: At the moment it’s “T-shirt” by Migos, can’t lie. According to my discover weekly, my go-to genre is rap but I think I’m more diverse than that.

HCAU: What song describes your life and why?

MR: “Fake Love” by Drake because honestly I have a lot of fake people showing fake love to me, straight up to my face. But luckily for me, I have another theme song which is “Jersey” by Future because I do what I want when I’m poppin’.

HCAU: What is your dream career?

MR: Prosecutor. I want to be like Casey Novak on Law and Order SVU. That is where my career ambitions started, sad but true.

HCAU: If you could have any super power what would it be and why?

MR: Telepathy, because that encompases a lot more than one thing and you get the most bang for you buck. It’s also useful, because if I can mess with your mind and that’s dope.

HCAU: What is a place in D.C. that you would recommend to a tourist?

MR: I would recommend just going to the museums because it seems like a lot of them would be boring but they’re actually really cool.

HCAU: What’s your most embarassing college moment?

MR: One time I walked into the wrong classroom for a class and it was fine, but then I walked in again and it was still the wrong classroom. Then I did a lap, and peeked again into the wrong classroom.

HCAU: What advice would you give an incoming freshman?

MR: you don’t have to know what you’re doing and don’t compare yourself. American is very competitive and a lot of people put on a persona like they have their life planned out and you don’t have to do that if you don’t want to…and don’t conversate with the fake.

HCAU: What is your favorite place to go on campus?

MR: I like the first floor of the library because it’s acceptable to be social but also you can get work done, you can eat too! Get you a room who can do both.

HCAU: What is your all time favorite TV show and why?

MR: Keeping Up With The Kardashians, because it will always be interesting to me. It’s also a fascinating learning opportunity to see people do nothing and build an empire off of it, it’s like a lecture.
