March Madness: Players to Watch

It’s that time again. March brings the beginning of the spring season, as well as March Madness. No March Madness isn’t a time where people go crazy in the month of March, it’s quite the opposite. You’ve probably heard all your best guy friends or boyfriend talking about March Madness. For those who are totally clueless, March Madness is like the “Super Bowl” of college basketball. Even if you know nothing about basketball, after checking out these players, you’ll be able to show the boys you know a few things; maybe even get you some bragging rights. Don’t forget to check out the Madness when it starts on March 19th! Here are 5 eye-candy (in looks & performance) players that are sure to make an appearance amongst the madness:

1. Michael Carter-Williams

School: Syracuse University

Position: Point Guard

Jersey Number: #1

Year: Sophomore

Known For: He leads the BIG EAST Conference in assists (7.5) and steals (2.9) per game.

Fun Fact: Named co-winner of the BIG EAST Most Improved Player Award this season

2. Otto Porter, Jr.

School: Georgetown University

Position: Small Forward

Jersey Number: #22

Year: Sophomore

Known For: Shooting 3’s with accuracy

Fun Fact: ESPN 980′s Andy Pollin recently made that argument that Porter could be one of the 10 best players in D.C. area college basketball history

3. Mason Plumlee

School: Duke University

Position: Forward

Jersey Number: #5

Year: Senior

Known For: He’s an elite rebounder on both ends of the floor. Also has the length and wing span to be one of the top shot blockers in the ACC

Fun Fact: Joined on the team by his brother, Marshall … In 2011-12, those two along with older brother, Miles (2008-12), became the third Division I brother trio to play on the same team

4. Cody Zeller

School: Indiana University

Position: Forward

Jersey Number: #40

Year: Sophomore

Known For: He ranks third in the Big Ten in scoring (16.8) and second in rebounding (8.1)

Fun Fact: Named first-team all-Big Ten for this season

5. Russ Smith

School: Louisville University

Position: Guard

Jersey Number: #2

Year: Junior

Known For: He creates turnovers on 8.3 percent of opponents’ possessions

Fun Fact: Awarded All-BIG EAST first team this season
