Meet: Lisa Michelle Weiner, co-president of Dime a Dozen, AU’s co-ed a cappella group.

As co-president, she works with the group’s executive board to schedule performances on campus and around DC. The group of 19 students rehearses three times a week for two hours. Dime covers both contemporary and classic songs and hosts concerts in the Kay Spiritual Life Center. Weiner’s favorite song the group has covered is “Shark in the Water” by VV Brown. The best part of being in the group? “Getting to sing at concerts with my best friends,” Weiner said. “We are the premier a cappella group on campus.”

A sister of Phi Sigma Sigma and double major in Musical Theatre and Public Communication, Weiner is actively involved in the AU performing arts scene. She recently finished performing the role of Sally Simpson in AU’s fall musical, The Who’s TOMMY, and is currently the musical director of the AU Player’s Musical Theatre Cabaret: One Moment. Her dream role is Eponine from Les Misérables, her favorite musical.

Last spring, Weiner worked as a promotions intern for HOT 99.5, WMZQ and WASH FM. She was also a casting assistant for Central Casting last summer. “I booked talent for movies, television shows, auditions and modeling gigs,” she said. After graduation in May, she hopes to have a fellowship with one of the D.C. theatre companies.

Save the date—Dime a Dozen’s final concert is December 3!
