Julia MacDougall ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Name: Julia MacDougall

Age: 19

Hometown: Weymouth, MA

Major: Biology with a psychology minor

Relationship status: Single

Dream date: Drinking apple cider or coffee, wearing cozy fall clothes, and apple picking then baking pie with the apples we picked (can you tell I like fall?).

Dating deal-breaker: Cockiness, rudeness/disrespecting others, smoking, being late

Guilty pleasure: Dairy ice cream

Favorite part about living in D.C.: There’s wicked good food everywhere!

If you had to be trapped in a TV show for a month, which would you choose: Private Practice

#1 thing on bucket list: It’s not #1 for my life time, but lately I’ve really wanted to play with a baby goat

What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life? “Drops of Jupiter” (Train), “Just Got Paid” (‘N SYNC), “A Thousand Miles” (Vanessa Carlton), “I’m Just a Kid” (Simple Plan), “Little Talks” (Of Monsters & Men), “Tongue Tied” (Group Love), “Unwritten” (Natasha Bedingfield), “Drunk in Love” (Beyonce), “I Wanna Get Better” (Bleachers)

If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be: I’d really like to see my grandparents and parents when they were just dating

Describe your perfect vacation: A trip around Europe. I love Roman history (and Italian food!) and have family from Italy, Poland, Ireland and Scotland, so I definitely want to see all of them someday.

The most meaningful experience of your life so far: Seeing how much people will come together to help others in need and watching my little sister grow into a real person.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Hopefully I’ll have graduated from medical school and be in my residency!

Advice to freshmen: Don’t be afraid to eat alone. Try studying everywhere on campus and pick wherever works for you. Actually study. Join a club and make some connections so you feel like you belong. Even when you feel overwhelmed, try to force yourself to get outside of the Tenleytown bubble and see the rest of the city.
